    Description

The LS-ISO5659 NBS Smoke Density Chamber measures smoke density generated by combustion or thermal radiation of materials under controlled conditions. Optical beam attenuation through smoke enables calculation of optical density and smoke density ratios. The chamber features a conical radiation furnace with heat flux density up to 50kW/m². Samples are positioned horizontally, facilitating simultaneous mass loss rate measurement.

    Compliance Standards:
    • ISO 5659-1:2024: Plastics – Smoke generation – Part 1: Determination of optical density by a single-chamber test
    • ISO 5659-2:2017: Plastics – Smoke generation – Part 2: Determination of optical density by a single-chamber test

    Chamber Configuration:
    • The test system comprises a main cabinet, sample enclosure, radiation cone, ignition system, light source assembly, photometric measurement devices, and integrated control systems
    • Ergonomic design principles inform both structural and control interface layouts; the full-opening door design facilitates sample handling and chamber maintenance
    • The locking mechanism ensures single-action door sealing and optimized operational workflow
    • The front access door incorporates a hinged observation window with opaque light-blocking shutter to maintain chamber darkness during testing
    • The control interface is positioned laterally for operator accessibility without visual obstruction when the chamber door is closed
    • Safety flame arrestor panels are designed for straightforward replacement and enhanced operational safety
    • Integrated gas sampling port enables supplementary gas toxicity analysis
    • Chemically resistant surface coatings and accessible interior surfaces simplify chamber cleaning procedures

    Combustion System Specifications:
    • Radiation cone: 2600W power rating, temperature range 0-1000°C, stability within ±2°C over 50-minute operational period, providing irradiance levels from 10kW/m² to 50kW/m²
    • Mass flow control system… (truncated)
