Description
The IEC 61032 Figure 13 Test Probe 19 (5.6mm small finger probe) is engineered to simulate how children aged 36 months or younger might access hazardous parts in electrical or medical equipment. It features a 5.6mm-diameter metal “finger” for realistic contact testing, paired with an insulating handle. The handle is provided with an extension, 464.3 mm long and the probe should be applied with or without this extension, whichever is the more onerous condition. Both joints shall permit movement in the same plane and the same direction through an angle of 90°. Note: It has no cable; a cabled version (for low-voltage tests) is available separately. It aligns with global safety standards to prevent child-related hazards.
- Probe Type: IEC 61032 Figure 13 Test Probe 19 (small finger probe for child access simulation)
- Probe Diameter: 5.6 mm ± 0.1 mm (metal “finger”)
- Handle Extension Length: 464.3 mm ± 0.8 mm (mimics a child’s arm)
- Key Dimensions: 101.6 mm ± 0.3 mm (probe section), 44 mm ± 0.15 mm (joint spacing), 25.9 mm ± 0.2 mm (collar diameter)
- Joint Movement: 90° angle in the same plane and direction (both joints)
- Probe Tip: Hemispherical (R2.8 mm ± 0.05 mm)
- Material: Probe: Metal; Handle: Insulating material
- Cable Inclusion: None (cabled version available for low-voltage testing)
- Core Function: Simulates child (≤36 months) access to hazardous parts in equipment
Test Procedures:
- Inspect the probe for damage (e.g., bent metal finger, cracked handle).
- Attach the 464.3mm handle extension if testing worst-case access.
- Adjust the joints to a 90° angle (as needed) to mimic a child’s hand movement.
- Gently guide the probe’s tip toward potential access points of hazardous parts.
- Check if the probe touches any hazardous components.
- Record whether the equipment blocks child access (pass/fail).
Applications:
- Child access testing for household appliances (e.g., baby monitors).
- Safety checks for home-use medical equipment.
